Blind Bestiario English Version

Writer: Michele Di ErreMichele Di Erre

Updated: 2 days ago

Performed by Michele Di Erre and Andrea Gagliotta

The "Bestiario" we present is a collective bestiary in which anyone with the "will" to participate can take part and challenge themselves. The participant becomes an active part of the performance—even if they cannot see.

Through the technique of blind sight drawing, we aim to reveal the hidden world of our visual memory. Each "beast" drawn by the participants will be cataloged using the same method and will become part of the "Bestiario using Blindsight Drawing" book.

On this page, you will find the rules of the game for the Bestiary, an experience that uses the blind sight drawing technique, which you can also try at home with friends.

Send us your works at micheledierre@yahoo.it, and they will be added to our online Bestiary collection.

Rules

First rule: If you’re in a hurry… don’t play! This game requires patience, focus, and at least two players.

  1. Each player thinks of an animal and tells it to the person next to them.

  2. On the back of your paper, write:

    • The name of the animal you are going to draw

    • The date

    • Your name

    • Your age

    • Your profession

  3. Close your eyes and visualize the animal in your mind.

  4. Once you "see" it clearly in your imagination, keep your eyes closed and begin to draw it on the paper.

  5. Don't worry if your lines go off the page—it doesn’t matter. The goal is not perfection but to draw exactly what you see in your mind at that very moment.

  6. Take your time—this is not a race!

  7. When you feel that your drawing is complete, open your eyes. You’ll be surprised by how your mind has expressed your thoughts.

Why Play?

This game helps people overcome self-criticism and, above all, teaches that in drawing, seeing is not as important as observing.

With just paper, pencil, and time, you will discover a hidden world—one that often slips away as quickly as if we were looking at it through the window of a moving train.

Try the game four or five times, and you’ll notice how your ability to focus on mental images improves with each attempt.

Have fun and let your imagination run wild! 🎨🐾
