New Delhi on Elephant
Another Drawing Appeared in Bomarzo – This Time, an Elephant from Jericó
Wandering through Jericó, a quiet town tucked in the Colombian Andes, I came across a statue of an elephant in the heart of Bomarzo Garden – or perhaps it only exists in my sketchbook. Inspired by this surreal encounter, I imagined the majestic creature carrying the weight of a whole city on its back: a vision of modern New Delhi, bustling and luminous, layered onto ancient stone.
The drawing took shape quickly, as if the elephant had been waiting for its story to be told. Did the statue really have something hidden in its past? Or was it simply a mirror of my own inner geography, maps of cities I’ve never visited, but somehow remember?
If this type of visual storytelling speaks to you, you might enjoy my Art on Vintage Book Pages collection, works where paper memories meet surreal imagination.
And if you'd like to bring a piece of this strange mythology into your space, prints are available via my Fine Art Print shop. This series symbolically and surreally explores the cohabitation of animals with an urban landscape. Here the ecological approach that distinguishes human/nature relationship is central by inviting us to perceive the earth as a living entity, as a large garden in which all the ignored fragments of the landscape offer us opportunities for regeneration. This was inspired by Gilles Clément's concept of "Third Landscape." All works are signed and certified.
